In the beginning of this episode, Clay Clark explains the definition of a “technician.” Like Michael Gerber, author of the best selling book, “The E-Myth,” says, “Most entrepreneurs are technicians with an entrepreneurial seizure.” After hearing this quote, the question naturally becomes, “What exactly is a technician?” In short, a technician is a person that is able to complete the job and get it done in the top tenth-percentile of that industry’s skill level. Technicians are people who are the best in their field and have developed a specific skill-set in their field that very few people can rival or match. Technician generally care more about their craft and about their work, and is very intentional about developing their skill set. The path to becoming a technician is not difficult, and starts by asking yourself, “Am I in the top 10% of my field?” If the answer is yes, then you are well on your way to becoming an excellent technician. However, if the answer is “No” then you must focus more on developing your skill-set and career in order to get in the top 10% of your field. After you ask yourself this question, and answer it with honesty and sincerity, you will quickly be on your way to becoming one of the best in your field.
