How to Avoid Death by Meetings: 4 Super Moves to Make Your Meetings Matter – 2. Understanding The Purposes of Meetings – Part 2

Do you use a meeting agenda? How do your meetings typically go? Are you using the systems from the top entrepreneurs to hold your team accountable? Learn the the specific tasks and tips that you must implement into your business and weekly meetings in order to hold your team accountable from successful business mentors. In this episode, business coach Clay Clark (former US Small Business Administration Entrepreneur of the Year) examines how Dr. Robert Zoellner has become so effective with his weekly meetings at his optometry clinic, auto auction, bank, and many other successful businesses. Some of the different moves that Dr. Z has used is to consolidate all of his decision-making into one weekly meeting. The reason why you must use one weekly meeting is because if you are constantly being asked about topics and decisions, you will never be able to be proactive with your time. When you make it a responsibility for your team to get all that information together to be able to make weekly decisions during a set period of time, you will find that your time is more protected and you were working more proactively. Once all of the decisions for the meeting have been discussed, Dr. Z will typically leave the meeting because there’s nothing left to talk about. He’s not interested in debating the decisions that he is already made. When he makes a decision, it is final. This is an important and underrated tip that Dr. Z uses in his leadership role as a business owner. You must understand that the decision-making process is not a democracy, you’re a leader because you’ve been put into the position to make the tough decisions on a daily basis. If you cannot make up decisions, then you need to find another person that can fill that role.
